Where does the name "Down Under" come from?
What kind of food does Down Under serve?
Down Under serves fresh seafood and fish, and Certified Angus Beef (CAB). Everything is cooked fresh, hardly anything is frozen, especially if it would affect either the taste or the texture. We have specials that we rotate daily and offer a wide variety of dishes that would suit most people and - more importantly - most budgets.

Does Down Under accept reservations?
Down Under is now accepting limited reservations throughout the entire evening. We hope this will encourage some of our guests to plan their evening with us and avoid an extended wait. The majority of our tables will still be held for walk-in guests, please understand if we are unable to take all reservations and we invite you to walk-in and join us for the evening.
Please note that Down Under will honor all reservations until 15 minutes past the reservation time. .

When is the Down Under open? What are your hours? Do you serve brunch?
We are open seven days a week. We serve lunch Monday through Saturday from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm, dinner Monday through Saturday from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm. A Country Southern Brunch is served on Sunday from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm.

What is the nearest highway?
Down Under is located 17 miles North of I-20, pretty much where 17, 44, 47 and 78 meet. We are easily accessible from Athens and Augusta, and wouldn't represent much of a detour should you be travelling to or from Atlanta.

How do I arrange a large party at Down Under?
Down Under is the perfect venue for your next event, large or small. Our main dining room overlooking our patio easily accomodates between 30-50 guests. Our “conference room ” is a more intimate space that can seat another 50 people and is the ideal space to host a standing reception with up to 60 people. For larger events of 100 to 300 people, we suggest the use of our Ballroom. Sorry! No private dining rooms for parties under 20 on the weekend. Can I bring my own wine? Does Down Under have a corkage fee?
Down Under ’s wine list can accommodate most tastes and wallets. Speak to your server or manager to identify a style that is right for you. If you would like to bring your own wine, the corkage fee is $15.

You are welcome to bring your own cake for a special occasion, however be advised that a $2.50 service charge per person will be applied (think of it as a "dessert corkage fee").

The menu at Down Under is varied and provides diners with a wide array of choices to meet the needs of vegetarians, vegans, people who don't eat shellfish, etc. Ask your server for advice. They have thorough knowledge of Down Under ’s menu and can help you identify choices that work for you.
In the case of potentially life-threatening food allergies or other serious health issues, your best bet is to call Down Under in advance and explain your situation. Speak to the manager or chef. They'll be happy to work with you and help you make appropriate selections or make special arrangements if necessary.

Where does the name "Down Under" come from?
"Down Under" came from the fact that we wanted to have a restaurant "below"(or "under") the Fitzpatrick Hotel, and have an Australian theme. Unfortunately the word "Outback" was already taken.
